Funded equipment comes with an obligation attached

A considerable amount of infrastructure in Slovakia — in research institutions, public bodies, education and industrial modernisation projects — was purchased under development or structural funding programmes. Those programmes generally attach a condition that is easy to overlook at purchase and decisive later: the asset must remain in use for a defined period, and its disposal before then can put the funding itself at risk.

The retention period outlasts the support horizon

This is the structural problem. A vendor support window is set by product strategy and typically runs a handful of years past general availability. A retention obligation is set by a funding agreement and is indifferent to it. The two regularly do not line up, leaving an organisation holding equipment it is contractually required to keep in service and for which the manufacturer no longer supplies parts.

Repair becomes the only compliant option

In that position replacement is not simply expensive, it can be disallowed. The equipment has to be kept running, which makes component availability a compliance question rather than an operational preference. That is an uncomfortable place to discover that the supply route closed two years ago.

Documented repairs, not just working ones

Where an asset is subject to reporting or audit, a repair needs to be evidenced. ICD records the component and its revision against the machine serial, so a replacement can be demonstrated rather than asserted, and supplies across Dell, HPE, Lenovo, Cisco and IBM with depth in generations the vendors have discontinued. Every part tested, serial-verified, one to three years of warranty.

Supplying against a retention obligation

Where hardware must demonstrably remain in service, what matters is that a replacement is documented and traceable, not merely functional. We record the part and its revision against the serial, ship from our Cairo warehouse by express courier, and confirm the window per consignment.
