Continuous operations set a different hardware requirement

Belgium concentrates an unusual amount of continuous-process activity into a small area: port and terminal operations, logistics and customs interchange, chemical and pharmaceutical production, and the administrative systems attached to all of them. The common feature is not size but rhythm. These are operations where there is no quiet period in which to take a system down, and that single fact reshapes every decision about the hardware underneath them.

The window that does not exist

Most infrastructure guidance quietly assumes a maintenance window: a night or a weekend in which a system can be stopped, worked on, and returned to service. Remove it and the entire approach inverts. Every repair has to be completed inside whatever redundancy the design provides, while production continues, which means the work can only be done with a component that is already in the building. A part that has to be ordered is not a slow repair; under that constraint it is not a repair at all until it arrives.

What that means for stock

The components worth holding are the ones that can be exchanged live: the redundant power supply, the array controller and its battery, drives within the protected volumes, and the optics and transceivers on active paths. Each is individually unremarkable and collectively they are the difference between an incident that is handled during the shift and one that becomes a conversation about scheduling an outage nobody can authorise.

Parts are matched to the installed configuration from the serial, tested before dispatch, serial-verified, and carry one to three years of warranty.
