2025–2026 Accra enterprise IT update — what changed since April 2026
Accra’s enterprise infrastructure landscape has shifted in three directions through 2025 and into 2026: new carrier-neutral colocation capacity, a stalled but still-pending 5G rollout that has frozen mobile-side capex, and a stricter NCA quality-of-service regime that pushes operators back toward fibre and core-switch upgrades. Spare-parts procurement for the city now runs against a backdrop of rising demand for fibre-network equipment and Tema-corridor data-centre expansion.
- Digital Realty’s Accra ACR2 facility live with 1.7 MW IT capacity. ACR2 sits on a dense Accra fibre route with direct access to the 2Africa subsea cable and operates as a carrier-neutral colocation site — adding to Equinix’s AC1 (acquired via the MainOne deal in 2022) and PAIX Accra in the city’s enterprise hosting footprint.
- Africa Data Centres acquired land in Accra for a new build. Africa Data Centres confirmed an Accra land acquisition with construction starting imminently, adding a third major hyperscale-grade footprint to Accra alongside Equinix and Digital Realty.
- Agility planning a 30 MW Tema-area facility, expandable to 150 MW. The logistics-real-estate firm announced a Tema corridor data-centre development that would dwarf existing Accra capacity if the full 150 MW is built out — a signal that Accra is being positioned for hyperscale workloads.
- NCA imposes its strictest-ever quality-of-service rules in February 2026. The National Communications Authority cut maximum allowable call-drop rate from 3% to under 1%, mandated 95%-plus call-connection success, and required at least 1 Mbps average data throughput per district — pushing MTN, Telecel (formerly Vodafone) and AirtelTigo toward fresh core, transmission and fibre upgrades.
- 5G launch still on hold; spectrum auction targeted for 2026. Ghana is targeting 70% population 5G coverage by 2027, with the 3.5 GHz and 26 GHz spectrum auction now planned during 2026 — meaning enterprise 5G procurement remains 4G/LTE-anchored for at least one more refresh cycle.
- NGIC–Reliance Industries USD 145 million neutral 4G/5G build commissioned. The shared neutral-host network is operational and signals a long-term move toward operator-co-investment models that affect both data-centre and edge-MEC equipment demand around Accra.
- LINX Accra internet exchange driving local peering uplift. Combined with the GIFEC rural-fibre programme, the new Accra IXP is concentrating more local traffic on city-based infrastructure rather than backhauling internationally.
