Server Parts for Guatemala

The estate that is mostly not in the data centre

A great deal of Guatemalan enterprise computing is not concentrated in one room. It is distributed across branches, depots, plants and retail sites — dozens or hundreds of small installations, each carrying a piece of the operation, and almost none of them with a technical person on site. The central facility gets the attention and the documentation. The distributed half carries a comparable share of the risk with a fraction of the oversight.

Distance is the dominant cost of a repair

In a single-site estate the cost of a failure is roughly the cost of the part plus an hour. In a distributed estate it is the cost of getting a qualified person and the correct component to a location that may be several hours away, possibly twice if the first diagnosis was wrong. The component itself is frequently the smallest line in that total, which inverts the usual purchasing logic: paying more for certainty about what arrives is straightforwardly cheaper than paying less and making a second trip.

Standardisation is worth more than any single purchase

The highest-return decision available to a distributed estate is making the sites identical. Where branch equipment is uniform, one held spare covers the entire network and any site can be recovered from a central pool. Where every site differs slightly, the same level of cover requires a dozen different components and usually is not attempted at all, which is why heterogeneous branch estates end up effectively unprotected.

How ICD supplies it

Components across Dell, HPE, Lenovo, Cisco and IBM, with particular depth in the older generations that branch and edge equipment tends to be, since distributed hardware is the least visible and the last to be refreshed. Every part identified from the serial and matched to the installed build, tested, serial-verified, and covered by one to three years of warranty.

Supplying an estate spread across many sites

For a distributed estate the useful property is that a replacement arrives ready to be fitted by whoever is present, which means it has to be the right part the first time. We verify the build from the serial before quoting, ship from our Cairo warehouse by express courier, and confirm the expected window for each consignment.
