Server Parts for Jersey

When the textbook answer is not available

The standard response to concentration risk is a second site. For a great many Jersey organisations that answer does not apply, and not for reasons of cost: if the obligation is that data remains within the jurisdiction, the second site must also be within it, and an island of this size offers few genuinely independent locations. The option is absent rather than expensive.

Which relocates the whole requirement

Resilience then has to be achieved inside a single room, at the component level: dual power supplies, protected volumes, redundant paths, no single item whose failure stops the system. That is achievable and it is how these estates are properly built. But component redundancy has a dependency that a second site does not — it only provides the *time* in which a repair is made, and the repair needs the part.

The spare is what completes the design

This is the step most often left undone, because it looks like inventory rather than architecture. It is architecture. A redundant power supply that fails leaves the system running unprotected until its replacement arrives, and if that is a week, the design delivered a week of exposure rather than the continuity it promised. With the spare on the shelf it delivers an hour.

Being honest about what it does not cover

A well-stocked single site does not survive a total loss of the site, and that limitation should be stated rather than papered over. For every other failure mode — which is nearly everything that actually occurs — it recovers faster than a second site would take to fail over to. ICD supplies the components that position depends on, across Dell, HPE, Lenovo, Cisco and IBM including generations long past vendor support, identified from the serial, tested, and covered for one to three years.

Resilience inside a single site

An estate that cannot have a second location has to achieve its resilience inside one room, which pushes the whole requirement down onto components that can be swapped without stopping the system. We identify those from the serial and dispatch by express courier from Cairo, with the window confirmed per shipment.
