Server Parts for Paraguay
The efficiency case for replacing an older server assumes expensive electricity. Here it does not hold, and the repair case wins outright.
An argument that does not travel
The most common case for replacing functioning server hardware is efficiency: the newer machine consumes less power per unit of work, and over several years the saving offsets the purchase. It is a real argument in markets where electricity is expensive. It is a much weaker one in Paraguay, where abundant hydroelectric generation makes power cheap enough that the saving shrinks toward insignificance and the capital cost of replacement dominates the calculation entirely.
Which leaves two honest questions
Strip out the energy saving and the decision to replace working equipment rests on exactly two things: whether the hardware can still do the work required of it, and whether it can still be repaired when something fails. Both are answered by inspection rather than by modelling. A platform that is performing adequately and has an available parts path has no remaining argument against it, and a great deal of installed equipment is in precisely that position.
The risk moves, it does not disappear
Keeping hardware for ten years rather than five does not remove risk; it relocates it from performance to supply. Several of those years will be spent past OEM end of support, and the component that fails in year eight has to come from somewhere. That is a narrower problem than a refresh, and an enormously cheaper one — but it has to be arranged deliberately rather than assumed.
What ICD provides
A parts path for exactly those years. Components across Dell, HPE, Lenovo, Cisco and IBM with the greatest depth in generations past OEM end of support, matched to the installed build from the serial rather than the model name, tested before dispatch, serial-verified, and carrying one to three years of warranty.
Repairing when power is not the argument
Where the refresh case rests on energy savings that do not apply, what an estate needs is a dependable parts path for equipment it has every reason to keep. We verify the build from the serial before quoting and dispatch from our Cairo warehouse by express courier, with the expected window confirmed per consignment.
