Repair as the default, not the fallback

In most markets, replacing a failed server is the normal answer and repair is what you do when replacement is inconvenient. In Iran that relationship has been inverted for a long time, and the engineering culture reflects it. Estates are understood at component level, faults are diagnosed to the individual part rather than to the chassis, and the knowledge needed to do that has been kept in-house rather than delegated to a vendor support contract.

Which raises the precision the supply side has to meet

A replace-first estate can tolerate approximate identification, because the unit of replacement is large. A repair-first estate cannot. The difference between two revisions of the same array controller, between two ranks of memory carrying the same capacity marking, or between backplanes that look identical is the difference between a repair that works and a machine that is still down with a component in it that nearly fits.

Serial-level identification is the whole requirement

This is why a model number is not a specification. Two servers bought together under one part number routinely differ in processor generation, memory features and controller revision, and nothing printed on the outside will tell you which is which. Working from the serial to the actual installed build is the only method that survives contact with an estate maintained this way, and it is how we quote.

What ICD holds

Depth in the generations that vendors retired years ago, across Dell, HPE, Lenovo, Cisco and IBM, because that is where component-level maintenance concentrates. Every item is identified by its own serial, tested before it leaves us, and carries one to three years of cover. Enquiries for this destination are answered case by case, and what we can supply and by what route is confirmed individually rather than assumed from a published lane.
