A considerable amount of the enterprise hardware in Belize was purchased through suppliers in neighbouring markets, which is reasonable given the size of the local channel. What comes with it, and is rarely examined at the time, is that any warranty or support attached to that purchase is typically performed where it was sold — not where the equipment is installed.

The cover is real and it is far away

This is not a case of worthless paper. The obligation generally exists and is generally honoured. The difficulty is the mechanics: the failed component has to physically reach the place where the claim is processed, be assessed, and the replacement has to come back. Each leg is a border crossing with its own paperwork and its own delay, and none of it is happening while your system is down.

Two questions answer it in advance

Where must the part physically be for a claim to be processed, and who pays freight in each direction. Any supplier can answer both in a sentence if the answer is good. If the answers are vague, that is itself the finding, and it is considerably better to have it now than to discover it with a production system offline.

A spare and a warranty solve different problems

A warranty eventually replaces a component. A spare on the shelf restores service today. On a cross-border arrangement the distance between those two outcomes is weeks, which is why holding the high-failure items is worth doing even while cover is in force.
