Work arrives faster than infrastructure plans

Mexico has been absorbing operations relocated from further afield — manufacturing, logistics, shared services and the IT that supports them. For the organisations receiving that work, the sequence is almost always the same and almost always uncomfortable: the workload transfers on a commercial timetable, and the infrastructure to carry it properly is specified afterwards.

The practical result is an estate sized against last year's requirement carrying this year's load, and doing it while inheriting availability expectations set by wherever the work came from. A system that was adequate for regional operations is suddenly measured against the standard of a global parent. That is not a capacity problem that hardware alone solves, but it is a problem hardware failure makes immediately worse.

The interval is the risk

New capacity is the right answer and it is a slow one. Specification, procurement, commissioning and migration run in quarters. The load, meanwhile, is already present and growing. Everything that matters therefore depends on the existing estate continuing to work through an interval nobody planned for — frequently an estate that has already passed OEM end of support, because it was bought before the expansion and was due for replacement anyway.

That combination, elevated load on hardware with no parts entitlement behind it, is the most expensive position an infrastructure team can be in. It is also entirely manageable with a defined supply route for the components that actually stop production: power supplies, RAID controllers and their batteries, and drives in the arrays holding live data.

Stock against the failures that stop a shift

When an estate is carrying more than it was specified for, the useful question is not which components are most likely to fail but which failures halt work. On a nearshored operation that list is short and specific: a redundant supply whose partner has already gone, a RAID controller or its battery in the array holding transactional data, and drives in the volumes that production depends on directly. Everything else can wait for a normal order cycle. Those three cannot, and they are the ones whose absence turns an hour into a day.

Moving a part across the Atlantic

Components leave our Cairo warehouse on an express service and cross to Mexico as air freight, so the flight is the predictable part and the border is not. We prepare the documentation before dispatch and tell you the arrival window we actually expect for that consignee and that service, not a number lifted from a rate card. Where a part is urgent enough that the border matters, say so when you ask and we will tell you honestly whether holding it locally would serve you better.
