And honesty about what is genuinely obtainable, because a promised part that never materialises is worse than an early no — it consumes the window in which an alternative could have been arranged.

Power conditions shape the spares list

Sites that depend on generator backup accumulate transfer events, and those events concentrate failure into particular components: power supplies absorbing the switching, RAID cache batteries cycling with every interruption, and drives that dislike being stopped and restarted. Those three are worth holding locally whatever else the estate needs, because they fail in clusters rather than singly and they fail at the least convenient moment.
