Data Sanitisation Technician

Since 2005, ICD has supplied enterprise servers, storage, networking parts and data centre maintenance to businesses in Egypt, the Gulf, Africa and beyond.

When organisations retire IT equipment through EKODAQ, ICD's IT asset disposition arm, they need proof that no data can ever be recovered. This technician performs and records that sanitisation, device by device, to a recognised standard.

• Receive retired servers, storage arrays, laptops, desktops and loose drives, and record each asset and serial number on intake.
• Sanitise HDDs, SSDs and NVMe drives with approved software in line with NIST SP 800-88 clear and purge methods, and verify each result.
• Remove and physically destroy drives that fail sanitisation or that customers require to be destroyed, following the chain-of-custody procedure.
• Test and grade sanitised equipment for reuse or resale, recording condition and configuration.
• Generate a sanitisation certificate for each device and attach it to the asset record in the ERP.
• Keep the secure processing area, tools and logs in audit-ready order.
• Report exceptions, such as unreadable drives or missing assets, to the ITAD Operations Lead immediately.

• Technical diploma or bachelor's degree in IT, electronics or a related field.
• Basic hardware skills: removing drives, identifying interfaces (SATA, SAS, NVMe) and booting systems from tools.
• High attention to detail and strict adherence to written procedures.
• Respect for confidentiality and secure handling of customer assets.
• Ability to handle equipment safely, with reasonable adjustments available.

• Experience with data erasure tools such as Blancco or similar.
• CompTIA A+ certification.
• Awareness of NIST SP 800-88, IEEE 2883 or R2/e-Stewards requirements.

Fluent Arabic; working English for software screens and reports.

Mostly onsite; occasional travel to customer sites for onsite sanitisation.
