Frequently Asked Questions
HPE parts, spares planning and power-related questions for Nigeria.
Keeping HPE ProLiant Running in Nigeria
Nigerian telecoms cores, banks and energy operators run HPE ProLiant well past HPE's support dates, and they do it deliberately. Hard-currency exposure makes a refresh expensive, and a DL380 Gen9 in a well-managed room is not a liability because a calendar date passed. What changes is that a failed Smart Array controller stops being a support call and becomes an import.
Plan the spares, not the shipment
ICD delivers to Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt in three to six days. But for an estate carrying revenue traffic, three days is still three days. The better approach, and the one we recommend to Nigerian operators, is a small on-site spares holding covering what actually fails — Smart Array cache batteries, PSUs, fans and drives — so that only the unusual part waits on a shipment.
Power conditions change the failure profile
Estates on generator and inverter supply do not fail the way grid-stable estates do. Power supplies go first and fans follow, and both fail more often than the drives everyone plans for. Our stocking advice for Nigerian sites is built on that: redundant PSUs matched to the exact ProLiant chassis, fan modules, and Smart Array cache batteries which degrade faster under thermal stress.
Buying HPE parts when the naira moves
Procurement in Nigeria is not only a technical decision. A part quoted in dollars and approved three weeks later is a different price by the time the paperwork clears, and finance teams reasonably resist open-ended commitments. We quote firm, hold the quote for a stated period, and where an estate needs a stocking programme we phase it so the spend is predictable rather than reactive. That matters more to a Nigerian CFO than any technical specification on the page.
Who we work with here
Telecoms cores, tier-one and tier-two banks, and energy operators in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt. The common thread is an HPE ProLiant estate that has to stay in service while a refresh is argued for, and an engineering team that would rather hold the right five parts than negotiate an emergency shipment at two in the morning.
