FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

HPE power supply and input voltage questions for operators in the Netherlands.

Three to five days, measured door to door out of Cairo. The Netherlands appears on the European card of our shipping page, and we commit to that published band rather than estimating per shipment.
The rating on the label is stated at a particular input voltage. Feed the same supply at a lower voltage and it delivers materially less than its label. A pair of supplies that comfortably covers the load at high-line input can be marginal at low-line, and the chassis reports what it can actually draw rather than what the sticker says.
Most often a machine moved between facilities, or a rack fed differently from the one a configuration was designed in. The server, the supplies and the load are all unchanged. Only the feed changed, and the available power changed with it in a way nothing in the asset record reflects.
It protects itself. Redundancy may be reported as lost even with both supplies present and healthy, because the pair can no longer cover the load if one fails. Some configurations also cap performance to stay inside the envelope, which presents as a slow server rather than as a power problem.
The input voltage the rack provides, not only the wattage you think you need. We size supplies against the feed as it is. Parts run the 3 to 5 day European lane, each bench-checked, serial-tagged, and covered one to three years.

A Wattage Rating Is a Rating at a Voltage

Server power supplies are labelled with a maximum output, and that figure applies at a stated input voltage. Fed at a lower voltage, the same unit delivers appreciably less. This is normal, documented behaviour and it is routinely missed, because the number on the label is the number that gets written into the capacity plan while the input condition attached to it is not.

The Configuration Was Right in the Room It Was Designed In

The situation we see most often in the Netherlands is a machine or a rack moved between facilities, or equipment installed into a rack fed differently from the one the configuration was sized in. Nothing about the server changed. The supplies are the same units and the load is the same load. The feed changed, the available output fell with it, and nothing in the asset record captures the input voltage as a property of the installation.

Redundancy is what you lose first

A redundant pair has to be able to carry the whole load on one supply. Derate both and the pair may still run the machine while no longer being able to survive the loss of one, so the chassis reports redundancy lost with two healthy supplies installed. That message is confusing enough that it gets attributed to a faulty unit, and the replacement behaves identically.

Some platforms quietly cap instead

Rather than risk exceeding what is available, certain configurations limit performance to stay inside the envelope. That presents as a server that is slower than its specification with no fault anywhere, which is the hardest version of this to diagnose because nothing points at power at all.

What ICD Supplies for HPE Estates in the Netherlands

Power supplies sized against the input voltage the rack actually provides, the distribution cabling and connectors between the feed and the chassis, ProLiant chassis components, Smart Array controllers with cache and protection hardware, ECC memory populated to the documented layout, and genuine drive carriers. Tell us the feed as well as the load and we will size to it. The Netherlands is named on the European card, so parts run a 3 to 5 day door-to-door lane from Cairo. Each item is bench-proven, tagged to its serial, and backed for one to three years.
