Cisco Support in Italy After End of Life
ICD supplies tested Cisco Nexus, Catalyst and UCS components into Italy inside the published European band, including for switches whose in-service upgrade stalls on a programmable-logic level nobody checked.
Cisco Hardware We Keep Running in Italy
Nexus, Catalyst and UCS components checked against what an upgrade will actually require.
The engines an in-service upgrade depends on completing cleanly
Nexus Line CardsData centre line cards with their own programmable-logic levels
Catalyst SwitchingAccess and distribution switches held past their support date
UCS ComponentsFabric, blade and rack parts for UCS domains still under load
Optics and TransceiversTransceivers chosen for the platform, the span and the fibre in the ground

Frequently Asked Questions
Cisco upgrade prerequisite questions for operators in Italy.
The Upgrade That Is Designed Not to Interrupt Anything
An in-service software upgrade exists so that a switch carrying production traffic can move to a new software version without a maintenance window. The mechanism works, and Italian operators rely on it because the alternative is negotiating downtime on infrastructure that many services depend on. What is less understood is that the software image is not the only thing with a version.
Hardware Logic Has Its Own Level
The supervisor engine and each line card carry low-level programmable logic firmware, generally referred to as EPLD, which is distinct from the software image and tracked separately. Target software releases assume a minimum level. When a chassis is behind that minimum, an in-service upgrade can halt part way through, leaving some modules on the new version and some on the old — a combination that was never a supported configuration.
Why it is a separate step, and therefore skipped
Updating hardware logic usually requires the module to be power-cycled before it takes effect. That is disruptive in exactly the way the in-service upgrade was chosen to avoid, so it is documented as a prerequisite rather than folded into the main procedure. An engineer working inside a narrow change window, reading a procedure that describes this as a separate activity, reasonably defers it. The upgrade then behaves in a way the runbook does not describe.
A mixed chassis keeps working, which is the problem
A partially upgraded chassis generally continues forwarding traffic. There is no outage, no alarm anyone is watching, and therefore no pressure to resolve it. The state persists as a quiet piece of technical debt until the next module reload, supervisor failover or upgrade attempt, at which point the chassis stops behaving predictably and the original change is weeks in the past.
What ICD Supplies for Cisco Estates in Italy
Supervisor engines, Nexus and Catalyst line cards, UCS blade and rack components, optics matched to platform and distance, and power supplies sized for the populated card count and its draw. We quote against platform and module identifiers rather than a model name, so the part matches the chassis it is joining. Italy is named in the published European band, so parts move on a 3 to 5 day door-to-door lane from Cairo. Each module is bench-tested, logged under its own serial and warranted for one to three years.
