Dell BOSS-N1 — the Boot Optimized Storage Solution for 16th Generation PowerEdge servers. It carries two M.2 NVMe SSDs in hardware RAID1 on a dedicated controller, so the operating system boots from mirrored flash that is completely separate from the data drives. The practical benefit: every front hot-swap bay stays available for payload storage instead of being consumed by a boot pair, and an OS drive failure never touches the data array.

Compatibility

BOSS-N1 takes NVMe M.2 modules only. It is not interchangeable with the earlier BOSS-S1 / BOSS-S2, which take SATA M.2 — fitting a SATA M.2 to an N1 card, or an NVMe M.2 to an S1/S2 card, will not work. BOSS-N1 is the 16G-generation part; verify your PowerEdge model and generation, and note that some chassis require the matching BOSS cable and carrier kit, which are ordered separately.
