IBM LTO drives are generation-compatible: LTO-N drives read/write LTO-(N-1) and read LTO-(N-2). LTO-9 broke this — only reads LTO-9. IBM 3592 (JC/JD/JE) is separate enterprise-tier tape line not interchangeable with LTO.
