FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Lenovo support, running-cost and parts questions for operators in Jordan.

Yes. ICD supplies tested parts and a maintenance agreement covering ThinkSystem SR and ST series and the earlier System x range, so an estate stays supported after Lenovo entitlement ends.
In Jordan it is an operating question. Electricity is generated predominantly from imported fuel and the national utility carries sustained cost pressure, so the running cost of a rack is a live line rather than a fixed overhead. That changes how long it makes sense to keep a lightly loaded chassis powered.
Usually not outright. The saving is real but is normally smaller than the capital cost of replacement and swings heavily with utilisation. What it does justify is consolidation: fewer, better loaded nodes, properly supported, rather than a wholesale refresh.
Three to four days from Cairo stock on the Levant lane, with customs clearance typically adding one to three days.
Yes. Dell, HPE, Lenovo, IBM and Cisco can be covered together rather than under separate contracts.

Lenovo End-of-Life Support in Jordan

In most markets the running cost of a server rack is an overhead somebody notices once a year. In Jordan it behaves like a variable cost. The country generates the majority of its electricity from imported fuel, the national utility operates under sustained financial pressure, and renewables have grown into a significant but not yet dominant share of the mix. The practical consequence for an operator is that the electricity a lightly loaded ThinkSystem chassis consumes is a live figure on a live budget, not a rounding error.

That changes the end-of-life question

When Lenovo support ends on a generation, the usual framing is availability: can we still get parts, can we still get firmware, what happens when a node fails. Where power is expensive, a second question arrives alongside it. Is this chassis earning its consumption? A server at fifteen percent utilisation costs nearly as much to run as one at sixty, and on an estate that has grown in stages there are usually several of them. The end-of-support date is the moment that question stops being theoretical, because it is the moment the estate has to be actively decided about rather than passively renewed.

The answer is usually consolidation, not replacement

Wholesale replacement rarely pays on power alone. The efficiency gain across generations is genuine but it is normally smaller than the capital cost of buying new, and it depends enormously on how hard the hardware is actually worked. What does pay is concentration: taking the workload spread across ten underused nodes and running it properly on six. The power bill falls without a single purchase order. What changes is that the six survivors now carry substantially more of the business, at a point where Lenovo no longer supplies their parts — so the support position has to be settled before the consolidation, not after it. ICD covers ThinkSystem and System x generations Lenovo has retired, which is what makes that sequence safe.

What ICD supplies for Lenovo in Jordan

ThinkSystem RAID 530, 730, 930 and 940 adapters with their cache and supercapacitor modules, TruDDR4 registered memory matched to the exact SR or ST generation, SAS, SATA and NVMe drives in the correct Lenovo trays, redundant Platinum and Titanium power supplies, and ThinkSystem DE and DM storage components. Every part is tested and serial-verified before dispatch and carries one to three years of warranty.
