Composability Lives in One Appliance

Synergy exists to be composed: profiles applied to compute modules, storage attached, networking defined, all from a management appliance. That capability is the reason the platform was chosen, and all of it resides in the Composer. The frames and modules are hardware; the system is the appliance.

Losing It Freezes Rather Than Stops

Compute modules continue running whatever they were last composed as, indefinitely and reliably. What disappears is every change: no profile can be created, altered or reapplied, and no failed module can be recomposed onto a spare. The estate is fully operational and completely rigid, which is comfortable until the first event that requires a change.

Redundant by Design, Single in Practice

The appliance can be deployed as a redundant pair, and on a great many estates it was not, because one was sufficient at installation and the decision was never revisited. The design documentation describes a resilient management plane; the rack frequently contains one appliance. Which of those you have is worth establishing before it matters.

Keeping the One You Have Beats Rebuilding

Holding components that keep the existing Composer alive is substantially more practical than reconstructing one for a generation past end of support. Beyond that, frame link modules and frame power supplies are the components that reach every module in a frame. ICD ships these to France in 3 to 5 days, tested and covered for one to three years.
