FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Dell support, standards and import questions for operators in Jordan.

Yes. Dell retires PowerEdge support on a fixed calendar; the servers carry on running regardless. ICD supplies tested parts and a maintenance agreement covering 13th and 14th generation PowerEdge in Amman facilities, so the estate stays supported while a refresh is planned rather than forced.
Jordan applies mandatory technical standards to electrical and electronic goods before customs will release them. That is a documentation step, not a delay you discover at the border, provided the conformity file travels with the consignment. We prepare it on the Cairo side rather than leaving it to be resolved on arrival.
A commercial importer in Jordan needs a Ministry of Industry and Trade importer card, or must post a customs bond against the shipment value instead. Which route applies is the importer decision, not ours, but it changes what we prepare, so we confirm it before the part moves.
Three to four days from Cairo stock on the Levant lane, with customs clearance typically adding one to three days on top. We quote the realistic arrival window rather than the transit figure alone.
Yes. A single agreement can cover Dell, HPE, Lenovo, IBM and Cisco. Mixed estates are the norm where a facility has grown in stages, and five separate support contracts is a procurement burden with no operational benefit.

Dell End-of-Life Support in Jordan

Dell PowerEdge estates running in Amman today were largely commissioned during the build-out of the city’s Tier III colocation capacity. That means 13th and 14th generation hardware — R630, R730, R730xd, R640 and R740 — carrying production load on floors that are certified to a standard the servers inside them no longer individually meet. Dell has moved the 13th generation past its final support milestone and the 14th is following. Nothing about the machine changed on that date. Only the contract did.

The certification sits on the building, the risk sits on the box

A Tier III facility certificate covers power paths, cooling redundancy and concurrent maintainability. It says nothing about whether the server in rack 14 can still get a mainboard. When Dell support lapses, three things stop: spare parts entitlement, firmware access, and the response clock. The facility remains certified; the estate inside it quietly stops being supportable. For a Jordanian operator carrying regulated workloads or hosting for a regional client, that gap shows up in an audit long before it shows up as an outage. ICD closes it with a maintenance agreement over hardware Dell no longer covers.

JSMO conformity is a paperwork step, not a border surprise

Jordan applies mandatory technical standards to electrical and electronic goods, and the conformity position must be settled before customs will release a consignment. Handled up front this costs nothing; handled on arrival it becomes the longest line on the failure timeline. Every ICD shipment into Jordan is prepared with that file in place. Separately, the importer of record needs a Ministry of Industry and Trade importer card or must post a customs bond against the shipment value — we confirm which applies before a part moves, because it changes the documentation set. Transit on the Levant lane is three to four days from Cairo, with clearance typically adding one to three days.

What ICD supplies for Dell in Jordan

PERC H730, H740 and H755 controllers with their battery backup units, DDR4 RDIMM and LRDIMM matched to the exact PowerEdge generation, SAS, SATA and NVMe drives with the correct 13G or 14G carrier, redundant power supplies across the PowerEdge range, and Dell EMC PowerVault and Unity components. Every part is tested and serial-verified before dispatch and carries one to three years of warranty. Where a part is genuinely unobtainable we say so rather than substituting something that will not carry the workload. Browse the wider Dell server parts catalogue, or see what else we cover from the Jordan server parts page.

Planning the refresh instead of reacting to it

The value of a support agreement over end-of-life hardware is not that it keeps old servers alive indefinitely. It is that it moves the refresh decision out of the outage window and back into the budget cycle, where it can be argued on merit. An estate under contract can be migrated in a planned sequence. An estate with no contract gets migrated the week something fails.
