Cisco HDD in Nigeria
Nigeria’s colocation market is among the fastest-growing in Africa — Rack Centre, MainOne (Equinix) and a wave of Lagos and Abuja facilities are driving demand for enterprise storage that can be serviced locally. Inside Cisco UCS racks, the SAS hard disk remains the workhorse of the capacity tier: backups, media, logs and bulk object data where flash is uneconomical. ICD supplies genuine Cisco-branded HDDs into Nigeria, matched by exact PID and routed through Lagos port, so a degraded array in a Victoria Island or Abuja data hall gets the right drive rather than a guess.
Cisco SAS drives commonly shipped to Nigeria
Most Nigerian UCS estates run a blend of 2.5″ SFF performance disks and 3.5″ LFF capacity disks. The mid-capacity nearline parts are the steadiest movers — for example the Cisco 4TB 7.2K 12G SAS 3.5 LFF 4Kn HDD for capacity pools and the Cisco 1TB 7.2K RPM 12Gb/s SAS 2.5″ HDD where SFF bays carry bulk data.
| PID | Capacity | RPM / form factor | Fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| HD4T7KL4K | 4TB | 7.2K / 3.5″ LFF | UCS C240 LFF |
| HD2T7K12N | 2TB | 7.2K / 2.5″ SFF | SFF capacity bays |
| HD1T7K12N | 1TB | 7.2K / 2.5″ SFF | Mixed SFF pools |
| HD300G10K12N | 300GB | 10K / 2.5″ SFF | Performance tier |
Why sparing strategy matters more here
Where local same-day vendor support is thinner than in mature markets, the smart move is to hold cold spares on site and standardise the fleet. Two technical rules keep that simple. First, sector format: native 4Kn and emulated 512e disks must not share a RAID group, and a 4Kn disk needs a 4Kn-aware OS or hypervisor to boot. Second, form factor: a 2.5″ SFF drive and a 3.5″ LFF drive use different carriers and bays — they are not interchangeable even at the same capacity. Picking one format and one sector type per pool means any cold spare you stock will drop straight in. SED variants are available where data-at-rest encryption is required.
Lagos import and on-the-ground delivery
ICD routes Nigerian orders through Lagos port and serves the Lagos and Abuja data-centre clusters — including the Rack Centre and MainOne/Equinix ecosystems. Drives ship serial-traceable with Cisco warranty backing. For an array running degraded, getting the exact PID matched the first time is what avoids a second shipment cycle.
