Decommissioning Steps
- Inventory — Document make, model, serial number, configuration
- Data backup — Verify all data is migrated or backed up
- Data destruction — NIST 800-88 compliant erasure or physical destruction
- Component recovery — Remove reusable parts (memory, SSDs, GPUs)
- Asset tracking — Update CMDB/asset register
- Recycling — R2v3 or e-Stewards certified recycling for remaining chassis
- Certificate of destruction — Obtain documentation for compliance
