3286549-A VSP 1.6TB Flash Module Drive Fmd
Hitachi 3286549-A / DKC-F710I-1R6FM — 1.6 TB Accelerated Flash Module Drive (FMD, 1st Generation)
Genuine Hitachi Vantara Accelerated Flash Module Drive, 1.6 TB usable (listed by Hitachi as a 1.75 TB Flash Module Drive), MLC NAND with Hitachi custom-ASIC flash controller, SAS 6 Gbps interface. This is a FIRST-GENERATION FMD — Hitachi model codes DKC-F710I-1R6FM and DKC-F810I-1R6FM, both catalogued in the Hitachi Vantara Hardware Guide (MK-92RD8007-13) as 'Hitachi Accelerated Flash 1.75 TB FMD'. It is NOT an FMD DC2; the DC2 equivalent carries the suffix -FN (DKC-F810I-1R6FN, CRU 3286696-A).
Form factor and where it installs
The FMD is a proprietary Hitachi module, not a 2.5in or 3.5in disk. It mounts horizontally in the FMD (FBX) flash drive chassis — 12 modules per 2U drive tray, 48 modules per 8U FMD chassis. It will not fit an SFF/LFF drive tray or any standard server backplane.
Compatibility
VERIFIED supported on Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform G1000 and Virtual Storage Platform G1500 (including systems upgraded from G1000), per the drive-model support table in MK-92RD8007-13. The same table shows N/A for VSP F1500 for every first-generation FMD (-FM) code, while the FMD DC2 (-FN) codes are supported on all four platforms — so this drive is NOT an F1500 part. Also rebranded by HP/HPE for the XP7 platform (reseller cross-reference AV392A; 3rd-party sourced, not OEM-confirmed).
Critical replacement rule (OEM)
Hitachi's drive installation guidelines state: 'The spare drives associated with an array group consisting of first generation Flash Module Drives (FMD) must also be a first generation FMD' and 'Add or replace a drive with another drive of the same generation.' A 1.6 TB FMD DC2 is therefore NOT a valid replacement or spare for a parity group built on 1st-generation 1.6 TB FMDs, despite the identical capacity.
Thermal note
First-generation FMDs are not designed for the array's high-temperature mode; Hitachi explicitly states DKC-F710I-1R6FM/3R2FM cannot be used at 40 °C, and that high-temperature mode must not be enabled on a system containing early-generation FMDs or a mix of early and current generation FMDs.
Enterprise storage-array component — end-of-life, secondary-market supply. Tested & shipped worldwide from ICD, Cairo, Egypt.
