Lenovo Support in the UAE and the Problem of Change-Freeze Windows
UAE retail groups, hospitality operators and logistics firms run their year around trading peaks, and their IT change policy follows: Ramadan, Eid, the winter tourism season and the December quarter are locked. No firmware, no chassis work, frequently no reboots. For an estate of Lenovo ThinkSystem SR630 and SR650 that is already outside Lenovo's support window, those frozen months are the real risk period, not the quiet ones.
Why a freeze changes the parts problem
During a freeze the answer to a failure cannot be a procurement cycle. It has to be a part already on the shelf, and an engineer who can swap it inside a narrow overnight window. ICD works backwards from that: before a known freeze we help operators pre-position the components most likely to fail on their specific generation, so the failure that does occur is a swap rather than an escalation.
What actually fails on SR630 and SR650
RAID 930 and 940 cache batteries lead, and they fail quietly — the controller drops to write-through and throughput falls without an alert anyone is watching. Power supplies follow. NVMe carrier mismatch is the third, where the drive is correct but the tray is not, which turns a ten-minute swap into a second order. We supply drives already in the correct Lenovo tray for exactly that reason.
Getting parts in before the window closes
Three to four days from Cairo stock per our published shipping times, clearing at Jebel Ali or Dubai Airport free zone. Spares move against an existing asset, so documentation is lighter than a server import. Operators holding bonded free-zone stock can have shipments delivered into the zone directly, which is the arrangement that makes pre-positioning practical.
Older machines in the same rack
Many UAE estates still run x3650 M5 alongside current ThinkSystem. We supply both, cross-referencing IBM FRU to Lenovo part numbers where the machine predates the 2014 transition. Everything is tested and serial-verified before dispatch with one to three years of warranty.
