FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Lenovo support, firmware and parts questions for operators in Iraq.

Yes. ICD supplies tested parts and a maintenance agreement covering ThinkSystem SR and ST series and the earlier System x range.
Management and firmware access, usually before anyone notices a missing part. The tooling that keeps an estate at a consistent firmware level depends on entitlement, and when that ends the estate stops being updated as a fleet and starts drifting node by node.
Because it turns a simple swap into an investigation. When two nominally identical nodes sit at different firmware levels, a replacement adapter or drive that works in one can behave differently in the other, and the fault looks like a hardware problem when it is a version problem.
We supply parts at documented firmware revisions rather than whatever a unit happened to ship with, and we record the level against the serial. That is what keeps a like-for-like replacement genuinely like for like once the vendor tooling is gone.
Yes. Estates in Iraq are commonly mixed, and Dell, HPE, Lenovo, IBM and Cisco can sit under a single agreement.

Lenovo End-of-Life Support in Iraq

When a Lenovo generation reaches end of support, most planning focuses on parts. The part that causes more trouble in practice is the one nobody itemises: the management and firmware tooling that kept the estate consistent. Entitlement is what grants access to it, and when entitlement ends the estate quietly stops being maintained as a fleet and starts being maintained one node at a time.

Configuration drift is the real failure mode

An estate under vendor tooling is held at known firmware levels across every node. Once that access is gone, levels stop moving together. A node serviced in March sits at one revision, its identical twin serviced in September at another, and a third that was never touched at the level it shipped with. Nothing appears wrong — every node is running. The cost arrives at the first replacement. A RAID adapter or drive that behaves correctly in one chassis behaves differently in its twin, and the investigation that follows looks for a hardware fault when the difference is a version. On an estate spread across more than one facility, that drift compounds quietly for years.

Why this matters more where estates grew in stages

Infrastructure in Iraq has been built up in waves, through different integrators, at different moments of the budget cycle. The result is a Lenovo estate whose nodes share a model name but not necessarily a configuration or a firmware history. A spares plan written against model names will produce parts that arrive and do not behave. A spares plan written against the actual generation, configuration and firmware level produces parts that drop in. ICD works the second way: parts are matched to the exact generation and supplied at documented firmware revisions, recorded against the serial, so the estate can be brought back into alignment rather than drifting further.

What ICD supplies for Lenovo in Iraq

ThinkSystem RAID 530, 730, 930 and 940 adapters with cache and supercapacitor modules, TruDDR4 registered memory matched to the exact SR or ST generation, SAS, SATA and NVMe drives in the correct Lenovo trays, redundant Platinum and Titanium power supplies, and ThinkSystem DE and DM storage components. Every part is tested and serial-verified and carries one to three years of warranty. Browse the Lenovo server parts catalogue, or the wider Iraq server parts page.

Documenting what the vendor no longer will

The value of a maintenance agreement over end-of-life Lenovo hardware is partly the parts and partly the record. Knowing which node is at which level, and being able to hold a replacement at that level, is what an estate loses when entitlement ends — and it is recoverable, but only deliberately.
