HPE Estates in Saudi Arabia After the Support Window Closes
Saudi healthcare groups, universities and utilities built out substantial HPE ProLiant capacity through the Gen8 and Gen9 cycles, and much of it now runs without an HPE contract behind it. In hospitals in particular the hardware is tied to clinical systems that cannot be migrated on a vendor's timetable, which makes an out-of-support estate a live operational question rather than a theoretical one.
Clinical and academic workloads do not move quickly
A hospital information system or a research cluster is validated against its platform. Replacing the hardware means revalidation, and revalidation means budget and downtime that nobody scheduled. The realistic answer for most Saudi institutions is to keep the HPE estate supported by a third party while the migration is planned properly — which is exactly the position ICD covers.
Delivery and documentation into the Kingdom
Two to three days from Cairo to Riyadh, Jeddah or Dammam, with paperwork prepared for SASO requirements and consignee-of-record handled Saudi-side. Spare parts against an existing asset generally fall outside the local-content thresholds that apply to new system procurement, which is worth establishing before a tender is drafted.
The parts that actually fail on Gen8 and Gen9
Smart Array cache batteries first, then power supplies, then fans, then drives. A degraded cache battery is the one that causes the most confusion, because the controller silently switches to write-through and the symptom presents as unexplained slowness. ICD stocks batteries and cache modules by controller family, alongside P408i, P816i and E208i controllers themselves.
MSA, Nimble and 3PAR in Saudi estates
