PERC H755N vs H965i NVMe Lane Mapping on 15G/16G Backplanes
A question we get weekly from UAE integrators: can a 15G backplane (R750, R7515) expose all 24 NVMe slots through a single H755N? Answer: only with the specific 24x NVMe backplane SKU — the default 12-NVMe-plus-12-SAS hybrid backplane exposes 12 NVMe lanes to the CPU direct, the other 12 go through SAS. The 16G R760 with H965i changed this — x4 Gen4 lanes to all 24 slots with proper cabling. Shipping a Gen4 NVMe SSD to a hybrid backplane that only wires half the slots to PCIe lanes is a common misdiagnosis we catch pre-quote.
