Dell RAID Controllers in UAE
Storage resilience in a Dell server lives or dies by its PERC controller. ICD supplies genuine Dell PowerEdge RAID controllers and SAS HBAs into the UAE through our Dubai inbound route, matched to the right generation, cache configuration and backplane — delivered into Internet City, Dubai South and Abu Dhabi free zones.
Hardware RAID or pass-through HBA?
The first question is architectural. Traditional volumes (RAID 1/5/6/10 managed in the card) want a cached PERC — H730P, H740P, H750 — where battery- or supercap-backed cache accelerates writes and protects in-flight data during power loss. Software-defined storage (VMware vSAN, Storage Spaces Direct, ZFS) instead wants the controller in HBA / pass-through mode so the host OS sees raw disks; the H330 and LSI 9361-class cards handle this cleanly, while heavily-cached PERCs are purpose-built for hardware RAID. Choosing the wrong mode forces awkward workarounds — decide the storage stack first.
| Dell Part | Controller | Cache | Generation / role |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5FMY4 | PERC H740P Mini | 8 GB | Gen14 hardware RAID |
| V9RNC | PERC H710P | 1 GB | Gen12 cached RAID |
| NGM2T | PERC H330 Mini | None | Entry RAID / HBA |
| 405-AAPN | LSI 9361-8i (12G) | 1 GB | Broad RAID/HBA |
Cache-accelerated Gen14 arrays run the 5FMY4 PERC H740P, while pass-through and entry deployments suit the NGM2T PERC H330. Gen12 R620/R720 hosts still rely on the V9RNC PERC H710P 1 GB.
PERC generations at a glance
The PERC line tracks PowerEdge closely: H330 entry; H730/H730P (Gen13) and H740P (Gen14) with 2-8 GB cache; H750/H755 (Gen15) for 12G/16G and NVMe-aware arrays; and the legacy H700/H710/H810 for older R610/R710-class servers. The card must suit both the chassis form factor (Mini Mono vs full-height adapter) and your performance target — an entry H330 will not deliver write-back caching, and a legacy H810 has no place in a current platform.
RAID levels for the Emirates’ workloads
Match the level to the priority: RAID 1 for OS mirrors, RAID 5 for read-heavy capacity, RAID 6 for large nearline arrays where rebuilds are long, and RAID 10 for transactional databases needing speed plus resilience. Cached controllers should carry a healthy battery/BBU or supercap — important everywhere, and worth verifying for facilities relying on generator failover.
UAE sourcing
Through Dubai, ICD delivers PERC controllers and the matching SAS backplane cables into Emirates free zones quickly, supporting fleet standardisation and rebuilds for colocation and enterprise tenants without long overseas lead times.
