Technical Note — 3 DPC DDR5 Penalty on 16G
DDR5 platforms behave differently than DDR4 when you push 3 DIMMs per channel. On the R760 (16G), Dell’s memory population guide shows 6400 MT/s at 1 DPC dropping to 4400 MT/s at 2 DPC with dual-rank modules. Going to 3 DPC is not supported at all on most 16G SKUs — the memory subsystem redesign around on-DIMM PMIC and dual 32-bit sub-channels means you cannot fit a third module per channel in a standard 2U chassis even if you wanted to.
