Cisco Support in Iraq After End of Life
Iraq is adding international capacity and backhaul far faster than it is refreshing the switching and compute behind them. ICD supports the Cisco estate carrying that widening load.

Cisco End-of-Life Support in Iraq
Iraq’s connectivity has been improving quickly. Backhaul has expanded, an additional international cable system is in progress, and mobile penetration is effectively universal. Investment is flowing toward capacity, and it is producing results. What it is not producing, at anything like the same rate, is a refresh of the Cisco switching, routing and UCS compute that all of that capacity eventually lands on.
Bandwidth arrives faster than hardware is replaced
Adding international capacity is a commercial and civil-engineering exercise. Replacing an aggregation tier is a capital project with design, procurement and migration phases. The two run on entirely different clocks, and the gap between them is absorbed by equipment that was specified against a much smaller number. An aggregation switch comfortable at its original load can be running near its limits three capacity upgrades later, without anyone having made a decision that put it there.
The symptoms look like congestion
Hardware under sustained pressure rarely fails cleanly. Buffers saturate during bursts and traffic is discarded in ways that look like an upstream problem. Optics run hotter, drift, and fail earlier than their rated life. Power supplies operate closer to capacity and become the component most likely to go during a thermal event. Fabric modules that were comfortable become marginal under new traffic patterns. Every one of those presents as a network capacity issue and is usually investigated as one, which is why the underlying hardware position often goes unexamined until something stops entirely.
Support is what buys planning time
The correct long-term answer is a refreshed aggregation and routing tier. The problem is that the load is rising now and the project takes as long as it takes. An estate that is properly supported can absorb that interval: failures get replaced rather than becoming outages, marginal components can be swapped before they fail, and the refresh happens on a schedule the organisation chooses. An unsupported estate carrying rising load is being asked to survive on luck, and the argument for replacing it eventually becomes an emergency argument for replacing it immediately.
Matching UCS by generation
UCS configurations diverge considerably within the same model family. Memory, mezzanine adapters and even some drive carriers are generation-specific, and a component that drops into one blade will be rejected by its apparent twin. ICD matches to the exact generation and configuration and serial-verifies before dispatch, which on a platform Cisco no longer supports is the difference between a spare that restores service and a spare that extends the incident.
