In a Cisco UCS Domain, the Fabric Interconnect Decides Everything
Cisco UCS is not a collection of servers. It is a domain, and the fabric interconnect is its brain. An Egyptian operator can hold a rack of perfectly healthy C240 M4 blades and still be one failed 6248 away from losing the entire environment, because the servers do not boot, configure or present networking without the FI pair above them.
Why this changes what end of support means
With most vendors, end of support raises the cost of a server failure. With UCS it raises the cost of a domain failure. When Cisco retires a fabric interconnect generation, the risk is not one machine — it is every blade beneath it, and in most Egyptian deployments that is the virtualisation estate for the whole business. This is the single most under-planned exposure we see in UCS environments here.
The practical answer is a spare FI
Not a maintenance contract on the blades. A physical, matching fabric interconnect on the shelf or reachable within hours, at the same firmware family as the running pair. ICD sources 6248, 6296, 6332 and 6454 interconnects and holds UCS parts in Cairo, so a domain-level failure is a swap rather than a procurement emergency.
Blades and rack servers
C220 and C240 M4 and M5 remain the volume in Egyptian data centres, with B200 blades in chassis deployments. We supply DDR4 RDIMM by generation, SAS and NVMe drives in the correct Cisco carrier, 12G SAS modular RAID controllers with cache, and redundant PSUs.
Local supply
Parts are held in Cairo, so stocked items typically arrive in two to four days per our published shipping times, with no import wait. Tested and serial-verified before dispatch, one to three years of warranty.
