How to Check Server Compatibility Before Buying Parts

Installing an incompatible part can damage your server, void warranties, or simply not work. Here is how to verify compatibility before purchasing.

5 Steps to Verify Compatibility

Identify your server model — Check the service tag (Dell), serial number (HPE), or machine type (Lenovo). Usually on a pull-out label on the front or a sticker on top.
Check the generation — Dell 14G uses DDR4-2666, 15G uses DDR4-3200, 16G uses DDR5. Wrong generation = wrong memory.
Use ICD Parts Finder — Enter your model in our Parts Finder (843 models, 2,262 compatibility rules). Every part shown is verified compatible.
Check form factor — SFF (2.5″) vs LFF (3.5″) for drives. Low-profile vs full-height for PCIe cards.
Verify firmware requirements — Some NVMe drives require minimum BIOS/UEFI version. Check OEM release notes.
